About

I'm sometimes called "Mic" (short i, exactly like digs) by people who knew me back when I was going by my middle name, Michele, and using the handle Michele in California. Some people thought it was cute because it's both the first three letters of Michele and the initials for Michele in California.

Digs can mean "I like it!" It can also refer to one's abode.

This is a site intended to talk about housing and decor. I like clean design in the sense of clean-lined aesthetics and I have a medical condition, so I need my home to be designed to be clean with minimal effort because I don't have the energy to scrub it to within an inch of its life.

My mother worked as "the maid" for years. Initially, she worked for an apartment complex and later in the homes of wealthy families.

For many years, her primary employer made their money via multiple apartment complexes. For a time, my mother defacto ran one of those complexes without getting credit for it.

I was a big reader and, starting in my teens, I read a lot of shelter magazines -- that's the umbrella term for anything housing related -- and real estate books.

That background helped me buy a house with no down payment in my twenties. To avoid damaging my husband's career or losing money we couldn't afford to lose by selling it, we rented it out for a few years, so I've technically been a landlord.

I have an incomplete Bachelor's in Environmental Resource Management with a Concentration in Housing. As part of that, I've had a college class in Homelessness and Public Policy and another in Real Estate Appraisal.

TLDR: I'm a former homemaker. Don't ALL homemakers read shelter magazines and real estate books? (And solar power magazines are just shelter magazines, no?)
